Now let’s get on to this polka dot project!
I am so excited to be sharing this project with you and participating in Polka Dot Week. Nothing can make me smile more than polka dots…. unless maybe stripes. Good for me, I have a little bit of both here! My little office corner in the house has these amazing colors of black, white, gold and pink. I love it! It’s fancy, girly and just my little spot. I found this adorable fabric and wanted to use it for a pillow cover. But I also thought it needed a little something in addition so I added the heart.
Now if you remember last fall I did a pillow tutorial of kitchen towels that I turned into an envelope pillow cover. This pillow I did the same steps. For directions on how to make the pillow click here.
After I measured out my panels I laid them on top of each other and began to sew the edges.
Then I found some adorable glitter scrap-book paper and used the die cut machine to cut out a large heart. My first time using Heat N Bond, was a little tricky but I learned from my mistakes so I know what to do differently. I think the biggest issue was I bought “lite” Heat n Bond instead of heavy duty I didn’t know there was a difference but when you use “lite” you can add stitching afterward which I didn’t want to do with the glitter. I just had to press a lot longer with the iron with the “lite” version to adhere the heart to the fabric.
After putting the pillow inside the cover it was done and beautiful! I love it! It has just the right amount of stripes, polka dots and glitter. You can’t get much cuter than this for a pillow!
Here is the back of the pillow, showing how the envelope opens up so you can place the pillow inside.
So there you have it! My Kate Spade Inspired Pillow. Of course if this was really Kate Spade’s it would be priced about $350 but my sweet pillow was about $10.00!
