American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is the ultimate place to stay ancient and traditional medicinal techniques. This is not some two-bit college either, but rather a highly sophisticated learning institute which is held in very high esteem by others within the industry. I can speak from experience here, having spent 4 years at the college studying for a Doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. You will see many colleges and schools across the country who offer courses in these kind of subjects but if you are looking for full immersion in these subjects then here is why this is the university which you should look to go to.
The university is situated in Houston, Texas and it offers 6 campuses across the state for a variety of different topics. Within the grounds of the main campus you’ll find a clinic which offers treatments for local residents. This clinic forms a key part of the university as it is usually operated by practicing and learning students, who can use this as the perfect opportunity to showcase what they have learned in the classroom. The college has sister colleges throughout China and Japan and they will very often offer exchanges for students and teachers alike. This is a university which is held in very high regard by those within the industry.
In terms of short courses and taster courses this university offers an abundance to its students and it also has 4 highly regarded post-graduate courses which can be taken on too. The post-grad courses are as follows.
- Master of Integrative Healthcare Leadership – Dealing with leadership in healthcare settings.
- Master of Integrative Wellness Management – This course focuses on the administration side of healthcare
- Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine – In-depth education around tai chi, qi-gong and other Chinese techniques, along with biomedicine and herbology.
- Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine – Similar to the other course yet with a focus on Oriental medicine on the whole rather than just Chinese teachings and methods.
The Masters courses can be completed in a single year whereas the Doctorate courses will be carried out across a four year period, comprising of 36 units each.
The benefits of studying at this college are that they have some of the world’s best teachers who work with the students here and this is why the college is able to consistently post great pass results. The student body was something which I found to be very friendly and welcoming and there is a really positive community between fellow students, I guess that this is down to the fact that we are all fully immersed in what we are learning about.
The skills which you can learn here can help you in both your personal and your professional life and if this is an area of medicine or healthcare which peaks your interest then you should most certainly look to study it.
