Pests

Nobody wants a pest infestation and yet research suggests that 84% of households have had a problem within the last 12 months. The problem is that there are thousands of potential pests everywhere, just one slip will allow them into your home.

Unfortunately, you generally don’t know about the access point, or even the issue until you see the first few pests. Of course, at this point there are likely to be much more than you realize, the ones you see are literally the tip of the iceberg.

That’s why if you see pests in your home you should call a local pest control firm and get the issue assessed. It may seem like a few ants or mice, but there could be a whole colony inside your home, doing an impressive array of damage.

That’s why it is important to understand and unravel a pest infestation as quickly as possible. The sooner you stop the issue, the less damage they will actually do.

Don’t forget, the bigger the infestation the more likely it is you’ll need help from a reputable pest control firm.

Working Backward

The simplest way to unravel the issue is to work backward. You know you have pests because you’ve seen them. This may be enough to tell you what they are. However, some pests, such as flies, arrive in many different forms, you need to be certain which type of fly you’re dealing with.

To this, you need to set a trap that will catch, and kill, the pest you’ve seen. For example, flies are generally attracted to decomposing food. Place some of this in the bottom half of a bottle with the top half inverted over the bottom. The flies will get in but struggle to get out, allowing you to identify them.

The next step is to follow the trail. For example, if you’ve seen mice then follow their droppings, it should lead you back to their entry point. Blocking this up will stop them from getting into a specific room. But, it may not eliminate the issue.

You need to verify where the entry point leads to, this will help you to track the pests back to their nest.

Finding the nest is essential to eliminating the problem completely. However, if the nest is large or difficult to get to, you really will have little choice other than to call the professionals.

Getting Started

A local pest control firm will be able to tell you what pests are most likely to be in your area. This may include some of the following:

  • Termites
  • Carpenter ants
  • Flies
  • Mosquitoes
  • Mice
  • Possums
  • Snakes
  • Cockroaches
  • Wasps

That’s just a few of the possibilities but, identifying the pest you’re dealing with will make it much easier to take the right steps to resolve the issue.

Don’t forget that unraveling your pest infestation will allow you to eliminate the issue. But, you also need to look at what is inviting them to your home in the first place, and deal with this.
